Although
not a ranking organization, A.T.A.M.A. does recognize and appreciate
that some instructor members may be unable, for various reasons,
to obtain rank advancement within their particular art through
traditional means.
To
address this situation, the National Board has established for
each martial art style represented within the organization, a
“Committee of Peers”, governed by individual members of the
association, chosen by the membership within each represented
style. Each
Committee member is a recognized practitioner within that art,
having the necessary training, experience, and respect to
evaluate the technical skills of any member seeking rank
advancement.
Each
Committee of Peers is responsible for developing criteria to
address the issue of advancement in rank of an individual who is
without the traditional means of promotion, and has implemented
a methodology by which a determination of technical skill within
the represented art may be decided.
Any
member seeking advancement in rank shall first make application
to the National Board, and shall provide to the Board sufficient
evidence of the member’s inability to advance within his/her
martial art through traditional means.
Based on the sufficiency of the evidence before it, the
Board shall deny the application, or authorize a Committee of
Peers to evaluate and determine the qualifications of the member
for advancement.
The
involved Committee of Peers will, after authorization by the
Board, evaluate the technical skills, experience, and training
of the applicant within the represented style according to the
criteria established by the Committee, and make a recommendation
to the Board. If,
in the opinion of those most qualified to assess the
applicant’s abilities, a recommendation is made that the
applicant is qualified for rank advancement, the Committee shall
be authorized, under the auspices of A.T.A.M.A., to make and certify
advancement. Certification
of promotion is signed and executed by the governing persons of
the involved Committee of Peers.
This
ranking procedure is independent of, and completely distinct
from, the Teaching Certification Level program. |
